Woven with Indanthrene* dyed yarns
The NC-005 (No Change-005) features a
cotton selvage denim with the unique characteristic of retaining it's
deep Blue color through repeated wash and wear while resisting the color
fading that Pure Blue Japan jeans are usually known for. This was thought to be useful
for those who would prefer to have at least a single pair of jeans they
could wear often but that could also act as a still-dark denim jean
when the occasion called for it.
*Indanthrene is a water-insoluble dye stuff that retains its color with
repeated washing, wear and distress, exposure to sunlight, and in most
cases is even resistant to acids and chlorine bleach. Indanthrene dye is
commonly used in Military uniforms due to it's high degree of color
fasting and it's ability to withstand extreme exposure to the roughest
of weather. It's also used as pigments in high quality paints and
enamels.
The NC-005 denim shares the same weave and slubby texture of
the XX-005 denim and will still show slight signs of color falling and
distress as the cotton wears thin but will not break down to the light
shades of blue and white seen with indigo dyed XX-005 denim. More info here

PBJ original slubby texture denims which include the XX-003, XX-004,
XX-005, XX-005BK,
XX-007, XX-009, XX-010, XX-013, NC-005, and NC-013, are all
woven using the same single shuttle loom machine which was manipulated
and
rigged in such a way as to create this unique loose and uneven weave,
and only for use by Pure Blue Japan. Just these denims
mentioned above are woven on this one machine which must be shared and
divided
into small productions of each denim throughout the year. Because of
this, the productions are small and infrequent which makes these denims
that much more special and unique.
