THEO CROKER

JUST A FEW HOURS BEFORE his show at Blue Note, down on West 3rd Street in Greenwich Village, we had a chance to catch up with composer, trumpeter, vocalist and producer Theo Croker. Theo, who’s an inordinately accomplished artist, has performed at Blue Notes around the world–in Tokyo for instance, as well as Milan–but this time would be different: his first show at the storied jazz club without a live audience. As we made our way toward Chinatown on a crisp fall afternoon, Theo lamented the impossibility of sharing music in person, and yet, he’s at peace with the bittersweet reality of live-streaming. Before parting ways, we asked Theo a few more questions about his background, his personal style, and his plans for the future.

Where are you from?
Leesburg, Florida about 45 minutes north of Orlando.

How would you define your personal style?
Humble, accessible, sophistication with comfort and freedom to just be.

What gets you up in the morning?
The gratitude that I have another day to explore creativity in this lifetime

What’s the next thing you’re going to make?
A cinematic album with the sounds of Orchestras, Voices, and ethereal sounds…..a high vibrational life-accompanying soundtrack……

What’s most like music that isn’t music?
Food. You must enjoy it in the present, but prepare for its moment of consumption. You cannot physically touch music but you consume it. Like music, food sends vibrations through your body causing fleeting emotional reactions with long term nostalgic effects.
